Redwood National Park

Return of the Jedi was filmed here and that’s enough for me

Where should I stay? There are very little accommodations unless you plan on camping in the Park! However, Roosevelt Base Camp in Orick was the perfect spot. A family-owned and recently renovated motel that has everything you’d need and the location is right in the middle of all the hot spots in Redwood.

Where are the spots I need to hit? The best (and most surprising) part of Redwood NP was that all of the best and cool spots to visit are all near each other. Fern Canyon Trail, Gold Bluffs Beach, Newton B. Drury Highway, Drive-Thru Tree (Klamath), Lady Bird Johnson Grove, Jedidiah Smith State Park and Enderts Beach were all accomplished within two days. Half was spent near where we stayed in Orick and the rest we hit on our way out of California in Crescent City. If you do anything, you must do Fern Canyon!

Are there restaurants or gas stations within the Park? Gas stations are available in Trinidad, Klamath, and Crescent City and all are about 20-30 minutes apart from one another. Restaurants are also few and far in between, but we spent most of our meals in Trinidad (Headies Pizza, Beachcomber Cafe, Trinidad Eatery) or bought groceries to pack lunches & snacks.
