Crater Lake National Park

Oregon’s bluest gem due to an imploded volcano

Where should I stay? The Crater Lake Lodge is the only accommodating spot to stay within the bounds of the Park and on the Lake, however it’s only open mid-May to mid-October and there is no air conditioning, telephone, or television in the rooms. There is heating for the chilly nights! We stayed in an Airbnb cabin about 20 minutes from the south entrance of the Park and from other folks we talked to, that’s what they did as well. It was extremely clean & comfortable!

What are the spots I need to hit? The obvious one is of course Crater Lake itself. There are several hiking trails surrounding the lake and the 33-mile Rim Drive is a must. However, even being there in mid-June there was a ton of snowfall that came just before we arrived. We had blue skies and upper 60’s temperatures, but the snow blocked most of the hiking trails - check the NPS website before going to set expectations! Discovery Trail gave a great view of Wizard Island and Phantom Ship! Hit up the Visitor Center, Crater Lake Lodge, and the gift shop (all located next to each other).

Are there restaurants or gas stations within the Park? Crater Lake Lodge Restaurant offers a great menu and spots to eat inside and outside. The gift shop also has to-go lunch options! Upon entering the south entrance is Annie’s which is also another great breakfast and lunch spot. Heading toward the north side of Crater Lake is Beckie’s which is famous for their pies - a must-stop when in the area!
