What are the spots I need to hit? To clarify, there are 5 islands that make up the Channel Islands. This destination recommendations are for Anacapa Island only! Anacapa is the closest to the mainland and it’s the smallest. The number one spot you need to hit is Inspiration Point. It’s clear on the other side of the island but the hike is moderate and you’re surrounded by gorgeous views all the way there. You’ll see the lighthouse from any point on the island and Arch Rock can be viewed best from the water. Island Packers (the ferry you’ll book with to get out there) will make sure you get great views of Arch Rock when leaving for the day. Depending on the time of year, you can swim, snorkel & SCUBA but mostly it’s just hiking and taking in the panoramic Pacific views.
Should I stay in the Park? On Anacapa Island, primitive camping is available (seven sites; $15 per night per site; reservations required). Picnic table, food storage box, and pit toilet are provided. No water is available. Distance from landing to campground is one-half mile and includes a 157-stair climb. If you’re only visiting for a 1 day, opt for staying in a hotel in Ventura which isn’t far from Channel Islands Harbor.
