Must-Visit Destinations for Every Season

As a true child of summer, born in the dead heat of August, I came into the world with an affinity for warm climates. I’ve hit National Parks in 110 degrees, Palm Springs at its hottest, and call it a character flaw, but I loved it. But if you’re not a psychopath like me and enjoy less intense seasons, I’ve got the international & domestic recommendations for you!

Spring

April in Paris is so iconic, even Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong sang about it. You avoid tourist crowds that come in the summer months and you experience the beauty of spring blooming in mild temperatures. Plenty to do indoors as well as out! (If you want true euphoria, eat a fresh chocolate croissant with the Eiffel Tower in direct view)

Although busier around the last week of March and beginning of April (when the cherry blossoms bloom in Washington D.C.), there are also so many other great attractions to hit in our nation’s capitol. A favorite of mine is the Smithsonian — home to one of the many pair of ruby slippers worn by Judy Garland in the Wizard of Oz. Riding the ferry on the Potomac is also a great way to see the sites!

Summer

Summer doesn’t technically begin until June, however we’re pushing the limits for this one. Santorini is my favorite place I’ve ever been and I lucked out with going in May. Locals informed us that May is the best time to visit because the weather is getting warmer and it’s right before tourist season kicks off, making it very crowded for months. I highly recommend seeing that famous sunset from a catamaran and not leaving without baklava!

I know I may be nuts to suggest the Southwest in summertime, but hear me out! I celebrated my 26th birthday in Sedona, Arizona in the best way: by hot air balloon! You’re welcome to take the many beautiful hikes that are all over Sedona, however I suggest off-roading it or getting views from above to get the best experience. when it’s hotter outside. Plus, don’t you want to see the only McDonald’s in the world that has BLUE arches?

Fall

While the calendar marks fall beginning toward the end of September, I consider the hovering days before the transitional period which is exactly when you should visit Positano, Italy. Their tourist season is winding down as boats cease their services and many outdoor restaurants close up in October. The days are deliciously warm and the evenings are comfortable. And you haven’t really visited Positano without a meal at Chez Black and a night cap at Franco’s!

True lovers of autumn and Halloween find their way to Salem, Massachusetts. This spooky town has so much charm and really puts on a show in October. Historical haunts and Hocus Pocus await on these cobblestone walks! Word on the street is I’m reliving my Halloween dream all over again in October 2023…..

Winter

‘Tis is a bit nippy in Edinburgh, Scotland in winter but you sure don’t mind it with views like this (taken atop Arthur’s Seat). One of the many joys of visiting popular destinations in winter is that there are less crowds. One thing I remember about Edinburgh is how much I loved popping into each little shop and then stepping out to such beautiful landscape surrounding the city. If you haven’t already, add this one to your list.

What better way to relish in the beauty of winter than by skiing in it?! Aspen, Colorado absolutely delivers on the freshest powder, delicious food, and culture, baby! Even if skiing isn’t your thing, check out the hikes, hot springs, and aprés ski hours that will keep you just as occupied.
